Our Farm Shop

Rock House, Station Road, Newton-le-Willows, DL8 1SX

About

Our Farm Shop is located in the village of Newton-le-Willows and stocks all of our home made produce, including jams and chutneys, cakes and meat available through the week from the freezer. The shop isn’t currently manned all the time, however there is a ring doorbell on the shop door which will summon a shopkeeper from somewhere around the farm!

Throughout the month (usually the first Saturday) we run what we call a ‘pop-up farm shop’ at the farm which is where we have all of our meat available fresh and an abundance of freshly baked treats, as well as all of the usual range of produce. You can find a list of upcoming events on this page.

Feel free to pop in any time for a look and a chat!

A BIT ABOUT US

We are David, Sheena, Tom and Zoe and together we are producing our own op-quality produce for our farm shop. Our pork is from rare breed pedigree Berkshire pigs (which make up part of the UK Berkshire herd of just 363 sows), lamb which is reared and raised on our ancient hay meadows which are SSSI status and we also have Rock House Farm Kitchen where cakes, bakes, jams and chutneys are homemade just for you!. At Christmas we provide: home grown turkeys, homemade mince pies and Christmas cakes which are all available via prebooking.

We have been farming the land at Rock House since 2016, inheriting the small farm from David’s uncle, Alan Hudson and has been farmed by the family since the late 1800s. Tom and Zoe are the 5th generation of Hudsons to farm at Rock House. Since we have taken on the farm, we have introduced pigs, sheep, hens and now our own herd of traditional Hereford cattle, which would have always formed an integral part of the farming practices at Rock House.

As a family, we are passionate about producing food that we can 100% guarantee the quality and care that has gone into growing it. Working with nature, we aim to produce food that is sustainable, nutritious, has low food miles and is affordable.

A large part of our farming and care-taking of the land is based around the SSSI status ancient hay meadows. SSSI means Site of Special Scientific Interest as is so designated because of a rarity and variety of the wildflower species which can be found in them. Species such as bugle, yarrow, self-heal, lady’s bedstraw, cowslip, yellow hay rattle and early flowering purple orchids to name but a few can be enjoyed throughout the spring and early summer.

We are very proud of the environmental significance of our wild flower meadows and our hedgerows which lay host to a wide range of wildlife, including curlews, skylarks and owls throughout the year, and we work with Natural England to maintain, enhance and protect these to the best of our ability.
